Judith Kerr Class (Year 1)

Year 1 have had a very exciting half term, we certainly had lots of activities which kept us all busy!

Our story last term was ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ this provided us with a trip out to Bridewell Museum. We all had a chance to look at the history of Norwich and had lots of fun trying on outfits and playing with the old toys. The shoes were amazing and we all said how some of the fashions have come back! Lots of photos were taken and the children had chance to draw their favourite items in the museum when we came back.

Following on with the theme fairy tales we chose for our story café ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’, a firm favourite with most of the children! Parents came and we all made finger puppets and masks which everyone enjoyed. The masks were taken to the theatre by some of the children who went to see a production of this at the Theatre Royal.

After looking at lots of different poems in English, we decided on our poem for ‘Poetry Day’ which was ‘Little Boy Blue’ we thought this was appropriate as lots of us had been sneezing throughout the term!  All children performed confidently and had learnt the words off by heart, lots of hard work paid off!

Finally to end the term we had our attendance trip, I and some of the year 1’s went on a boat trip to the broads, the sun shone and we all had a marvellous time. Others went to Lowestoft Adventure Park and Wroxham barns.

This term our story is ‘The Little Red Hen’ where we will be looking at plants in Science and planting some Sunflower seeds. We will also be looking at the Geography of the school and its grounds and the surrounding environment. Lots of outdoors work for a lovely Summer term!!
