Why is Attendance Important?
Children who are in school and on time every day do better than those who are not. It’s a fact. Even children whose attendance is 90% will have missed 19 school days over the year and will struggle to achieve their targets. So here is what we do to encourage excellent attendance at Magdalen Gates Primary School.
The class with the highest attendance % will receive £10 during our Friday assembly. These will be recorded and displayed on our attendance league board in the hall.
All classes will be able to spend their total amount of £10 earned.
Pupils with 99/100% attendance will go on a special outing!
In December parents will receive a traffic light attendance card to inform them of their child’s current %. These % will form part of parents written progress reports in March and July too.
If we achieve our attendance target we will celebrate by having a whole school trip!
Any child that has 99 or 100% attendance in July will receive a special certificate and prize in our Governor Award assembly.
Our Targets and Expectations
Our overall attendance should not be less than 95% – this is the benchmark used by Ofsted and any less than that is judged to be inadequate and would fail an Inspection.
Our attendance target for 2016-2017 is 97%
This year we will be clamping down on late-comers. If your child is not in school for 8:45 am, they will be considered late.
